Architect on the Run!
Local architect and charity fundraiser, Dave Vickerstaff is making his final preparations for this Sunday as he will be lining up with the likes of Mo Farrah and Paula Radcliffe in the Virgin Money London Marathon.
“This is a special year as it will be Paula Radcliffe’s last ever marathon” said Dave. Whilst he isn’t competing with the world famous athletes, Dave is hoping to beat his previous time and run the 26.2 miles in less than 3 hours and 15 minutes.
Dave Vickerstaff, 38, works for Bailey Partnership, local architects and property consultants based in the Millfields who have given Dave a great deal of support. Joining him at the start line will be one of his colleagues, Rachel Bremner who runs with Tamar Trotters. Whilst Rachel was lucky enough to get a place in the ballot for the marathon, Dave is a Golden Bond runner raising money for the RNLI.
He is hoping to raise £2300 for the RNLI which is a charity he strongly believes in. “My father was a fisherman for many years in the 70s and 80’s and knowing how dangerous it is out there it was always comforting to know that the men and women of the RNLI are on hand to bravely risk their lives to save others. With the introduction of RNLI lifeguards to our beaches here in the SouthWest it is more important than ever to donate money to this charitable organisation and ensure that families can enjoy a great summer at the beach in relative safety”.
The running bug is catching on within the office at Bailey Partnership and there are now a number of keen runners in the office who regularly run on lunch breaks which is a great stress buster. Whilst most look to tackle a 10k or even the Plymouth Half Marathon, on the 26th April, Rachel and Dave will be lining up for 26.2 miles in London and have been training hard all winter in preparation.
“Running is a great way to get away from the desk and stretch the legs. It’s a chance to take time to look around and appreciate what we often take for granted.” Said Dave
With only 1 marathon under Dave’s belt and this being a first for Rachel, the 26.2 miles is daunting yet exciting prospect, especially with the opportunity to spend time taking in the architectural landscape of London.
Bailey Partnership is pleased to be supporting their runners and the RNLI.
