The people’s choice – social worker of the year announced
Plymouth City Council employee, Felix Munkuli, was named Children and Young Person’s Social Worker of the Year at yesterday's Full Council meeting.
He was presented with the William Phillip Tucker & Gladys May Tucker Trophy for his outstanding commitment to the children and young people in care after receiving a number of nominations from children in care and their carers in the city.
This trophy was purchased by the late Kenneth Edward Tucker, a former Plymouth City Council social worker, in memory of his parents Councillors William and Gladys Tucker.
Some of the comments received about Felix include:
“What makes Felix stand out, is that he treats everyone with respect; young people, parents, residential support workers and managers. He values the professional opinions of others. He is always positive about work with young people. He is always there for the young people and he really does work in partnership”.
“Felix is always on time and always happy”.
“Felix goes above and beyond the call of duty. He is ALWAYS on the side of the children that he has in his workload. He is a decent and honest man and always has a smile on his face.”
“He is the BEST!!!”
Felix has worked for the Council since November 2002 and said: “This means so much to me, knowing that the children and carers I work with have voted for me. The job is very intense and all the social workers deal with many different scenarios every day which come with its own rewards. I feel very honoured to receive the William Phillip Tucker and Gladys May Tucker Trophy and may their memory live on.”
Councillor Nicky Williams, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, added: “The social worker role is a very challenging one and we have a number of very hard working individuals who really do make a difference to people’s lives. I would like to personally say a huge well done and thank you to the whole team – and congratulations to Felix!”
The trophy will be used as part of a yearly celebration in September.
