Kitsons scale new heights - Three Peaks Charity Challenge
16 members of staff from leading Devon law firm Kitsons faced the challenge of a lifetime this weekend when they tackled the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West.
Three teams of walkers left the comfort of their desks to don walking boots and waterproofs and undertake the gruelling 10,000 feet ascent across uneven terrain and more than 450 miles of driving in challenging weather conditions.
Two of the teams, including five Kitsons partners (James Cross, David Turner, Cameron Caverhill, Nick Johnson and Tony Hunt), managed to touch the top of Snowdon in Wales just 24 hours after ascending to the summit of Ben Nevis in Scotland with a climb to the top of Scafell Pike in between.
James Cross, Managing Partner at Kitsons said: “Despite all that can happen to a team in such a short space of time, we managed to have two walking teams reach the top of all three peaks in 24 hours of each other. We started at the foot of Ben Nevis in Scotland on Friday and reached the top of Snowdon 24 hours later. A tyre blow out and the closing of the main road back to Glasgow meant we could not get up and down all three peaks in 24 hours which is what we wanted to do, but we reached all three summits in 24 hours which considering everything that was out of our control was a fantastic achievement.”
“I am very proud of my colleagues for their efforts, most had never walked up a mountain before and these were tough climbs. Everyone rose to the challenge all in aid of a great cause. Many thanks to all our sponsors, their commitment to us and to Children’s Hospice South West was a great spur in the torrential rain and hail we experienced throughout,” he added.
Children’s Hospice South West helps and supports children with life-limiting conditions, which means that sadly they are not expected to reach adulthood. At its Little Bridge House hospice in North Devon, the charity provides respite care and support for those children and their families, who are having to cope with the most difficult of situations. It also provides care at its other two hospices in Bristol and St Austell.
Naomi Dymond, Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser at CHSW, said: “On behalf of all the children and families you help us to support, we want to say a massive thank you and congratulations to all the Kitsons team for such an incredible achievement. The money you have raised will make a huge difference and help us to deliver our promise to make the most of short and precious lives. Well done everyone!”
Kitsons’ Three Peaks Challenge completes a trio of charity challenges over the last three months in aid of Children’s Hospice South West including an ultra marathon (‘Race to the Stones’ trail running race) and a firm-wide kilometre challenge covering more than 1,200km in 32 hours.
