One of Plymouth's leading wealth management firms recently celebrated moving to its new premises within the city centre with an official opening by Johnny Mercer, MP for Plymouth Moor View.
Sound Financial Management spent £400,000 acquiring the Grade II-listed building near the Hoe in Plymouth and has invested a further £350,000 into a year-long renovation project working closely with Plymouth City Council Heritage.
The building was designed by the celebrated architect John Foulston and his pupil George Wightwick, as part of a scheme "which placed Plymouth in the forefront of town planning in the early/mid 19th century", according to the website British Listed Buildings.
Mr Mercer commented: “I have always maintained that local SME’s are the back bone of our economy in Plymouth, providing jobs for thousands and bringing millions of pounds into our proud City. SFM is a leading example of this, with sustained and balanced growth over the last 19 years, with Adam Pollard at the helm. I was proud to attend this event, particularly given Adam’s past as a Royal Marine. Veteran’s add so much to our Community - they are an integral part of our fabric here in Plymouth; Adam is a fine example of this. “
The move to larger offices has been necessary largely due to the dramatic growth Sound Financial has undergone following the acquisition of three other local firms over the last five years. The rapidly expanding company, which was established in 1997, now manages more than £230million of client funds.
Managing director Adam Pollard said: “Our continued growth led us to search for new, larger premises so when the opportunity arose to purchase Windsor Villas we knew immediately that it would be perfect as our new home, situated within the heart of the city and the professional community.
“It was a big decision to leave Queen Anne’s Battery after so long but we have swapped our sea view for this beautiful city centre building and are now the latest custodians of 5 Windsor Villas.”
Modbury-based Mr Builder Co oversaw the project working closely with Sound Financial director Paul Meatyard who acted as project manager.
Mr Pollard said: “Our team here all took it in their stride, but none of it could have been possible without Paul who has spent the last 12 months pulling everyone together. Somehow Paul has found the time to not only work in the Practice but also on our new project.”
He added: “We owe our success to our clients who predominantly live in and around the city. So it gives us a great deal of personal satisfaction to save one of Plymouth's great listed buildings. We have created a fantastic new office environment for our clients and staff while paying particular attention to restoring the many superb architectural features the building contains."
