Final day of this year’s Big Summer Food Tour

After visiting nine different locations around Plymouth, Thursday 1 September is the final day of this year’s CATERed Big Summer Food Tour and, by the end of the lunchtime, over 3,000 freshly prepared, great tasting FREE bagged meals will have been provided to children & young people.

Throughout the summer the CATERed team have been at different locations across the city handing out delicious, healthy free lunches to help make sure that some children who would normally receive free school meals are not missing out during the long summer holiday.

Managing Director of CATERed Brad Pearce said: “This is the second year we have done the Big Summer Food Tour and it’s been even bigger and better than the first. We’ve met hundreds of children and their families and the feedback we have received from parents has been fantastic.

“Once again I’d like to thank Tamar Fresh, Scorse and Bidvest for providing all the food this year again and to our amazing staff who have given up some of their Summer Holidays to help us as without everyone’s continued commitment this event would not be possible.”

As it’s the final day of this year’s Big Summer Food Tour the CATERed team will also be joined by CREW Training who will be running a special food science show which looks at the body as if it were a machine and how food helps it work.

The show (approximately 20 minutes long) will be interactive with the audience and run as a game show and is aimed at children aged six to nine year olds (Key Stage 1 and 2). The show will run three times with the first one at 12 noon.

Don’t forget if your child is starting school for the first time this September they will automatically be entitled to universal infant free school meals (UIFSM).

This applies to any child up to the age of seven (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) so if your child hasn’t yet been taking advantage of Ed’s super fantastic school meals just speak to their school when they return next week.  There is no need to register for UIFSM.

For parents of older children it’s just £2.00 a day for a great tasting, freshly prepared two course school dinner.
