Fresh From Warrens On the Go at Derriford extended due to popular demand

The fresh approach to hospital nutrition taken by Cornwall’s oldest bakery has proved a huge success. In the Spring Warrens Bakery launched a new healthy menu delivery app for Derriford Hospital called “Fresh From Warrens On the Go”, which was the first of its kind. Demand for the service, particularly from hospital employees, has meant that four new collection points have just been added.

The app offers much needed convenience for the medical team and support staff working in the hospital daily. “Fresh From Warrens On the Go” makes meal times even easier for staff at Derriford Hospital, delivering a menu of fresh and healthy options directly to wards to save time walking hospital corridors in search of sustenance. Staff can enjoy the benefits of a varied menu, from wholesome lunchtime soups, vitamin-boosting smoothies, salads and freshly made sandwiches.

The app allows users to pre-order their lunch via the app, selecting a pre-appointed collection point near their ward where the Fresh From Warrens team will bring their order. For those that can’t make the collection times, there are secure drop off points available around the hospital too.

Those working the night shift can also enjoy the Fresh from Warrens app. Between midnight – 6am, they can pre-select their orders from a special night menu and collect from the Fresh from Warrens outlet on level 6, ideal for those working the night shift.

The app sees an ongoing commitment Fresh From Warrens has with Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust to providing healthy and convenient options for staff and visitors alike. As part of these conversations, the hospital saw Warrens Bakery rebrand as Fresh From Warrens last year, introducing new healthy eating options to the unit and most recently the launch of a new healthy meal deal initiative to encourage healthier food choices for staff and patients.

Recent research conducted by Fresh From Warrens at Derriford Hospital found that almost a third (29%) of people were looking for quick and convenient food on the go. Three of the top reasons given for choosing Fresh From Warrens was because of convenience and speed of service and the app has been developed to further enhance the offering.
