Getting the nuts and bolts of business right

Teams from the Council will be at an event next week to highlight the support available to Plymouth’s small businesses.

Council staff will be offering advice to new businesses as well as existing ones looking for tips on how to make their company grow.

The event takes place at Plymouth Science Park’s Baylis Suite on Tuesday 21 July and is hosted by Result Coach Ltd. This event was originally scheduled for June but was postponed.

Teams from the Council’s Public Protection Service will be on hand to offer advice on a wide range of topics including Trading Standards, the ‘Buy with Confidence’ campaign, pest control and the Food Hygiene Ratings scheme.

There will also be advisors on trade waste, inward investment, social enterprise, commercial property as well as staff who can guide companies on how to do business with local public sector organisations.

Councillor Phillippa Davey, Cabinet Member for Safer and Stronger Communities said: “We want to help businesses flourish and expand here and have teams across the Council who are able to support businesses of all sizes in different ways.

“Some businesses – especially ones that sell food – rightly have a lot of legislation around them to help protect the public. We are not just about making sure the rules are followed, we have courses and guidance to help companies avoid pit falls.”

The event costs £6.50 for just the network lunch, £12 for a half day ticket and £18 for the whole day with workshops, networking lunch and an ask the panel.
