Labour announce candidate for Devon & Cornwall Police and Crime Commissioner role
Labour South West has announced today that the Police and Crime Commissioner Candidate in Devon and Cornwall will be Gareth Derrick.
The announcement of the candidate follows a selection process during which shortlisted candidates were subject to a ballot by local party members.
Gareth is a former Naval Commander and has experience of working in the Navy at several senior positions.
Phil Gaskin, Labour South West Regional Director, said: “I am delighted to announce that Gareth Derrick is the Police and Crime Commissioner Candidate for Devon and Cornwall.
"Gareth will be an excellent candidate due to his background in the military and his ability to communicate effectively with all those that he meets.”
Gareth Derrick, Labour’s candidate for Police and Crime Commissioner in Devon and Cornwall, said: “I am very pleased to be Labour’s Police and Crime Commissioner Candidate for Devon and Cornwall.
"Devon and Cornwall is largely rural with urban areas, and has a more complex police need than many areas, and yet the government has cut its funding repeatedly, and the Conservative PCC has himself admitted that the police force cannot manage under such measures.
"I will spend the coming months setting out the alternative to the people of Devon and Cornwall.”
