Devon solicitors in the running for national family law awards
Flying the flag for the region, two of the hardest working specialist solicitors in Devon have been shortlisted in the national Family Law Awards.
Director and co-founder of The Family Law Company Jane Chanot is a finalist in the International Family Lawyer category, whilst Grace Bradley is on the shortlist for Associate Solicitor of the Year.
Both solicitors work at the grittier end of family law, dealing with complex, often harrowing cases that require commitment, tenacity, and unsociable hours.
Jane has been on the International Child Abduction and Contact Unit (ICACU) since 2000 and in 2010, set up a specialist team to concentrate on this complicated area of family law. Her cases, particularly for abduction and domestic violence, demand a fast, determined response in seeking urgent orders and recovering children or property.
She says “I’m thrilled and honoured to be shortlisted alongside an illustrious group of international family lawyers.
“I’m especially happy to see my colleague Grace named as a finalist, as her work is outstanding.”
Associate Solicitor Grace also specialises in international work. Many of her cases involve allegations of domestic violence, mental health and immigration issues, and she regularly represents clients who speak little or no English. One of the challenges she faces is ongoing negotiations with the Legal Aid Authority to ensure clients receive the legal support they need.
Business Development Director, Rachel Buckley comments “Jane and Grace haven’t faltered during the months of lockdown and beyond – their clients rely on them and their ability to respond quickly to situations.
“As the only law firm in Devon represented at these national awards, we’re doubly proud of their achievement.”
The finalists were chosen by a judging panel made up of representatives of the Family Law Bar Association, Resolution, the Association of Lawyers for Children, and CILEx along with Family Law editors and publishing executives. Due to Covid-19 the awards ceremony will take place virtually, on November 25.
