Devon hotel helps ensure children will wake up to a Christmas present
Children at risk of waking up to nothing on Christmas Day will have something to open thanks to a Christmas appeal backed by a Devon hotel.
Bovey Castle have donated games, books and soft toys to Cash for Kids’ Mission Christmas appeal to support children impacted by poverty across the UK.
The charity aims to improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people, with Bovey Castle donating a toy for each child staying at the hotel on a Christmas package.
Dean Gunston, General Manager of Bovey Castle, said: “Christmas is a special time of the year for all youngsters, but sadly it is a luxury that many families can’t afford.
“We’re delighted to be playing a small part in Cash for Kids’ Mission Christmas appeal and hope these donations help to spread joy to children this year.”
Staff at the hotel, located in Dartmoor National Park, North Bovey, have also been spreading Christmas cheer by donating food to Moretonhampstead Community Fridge and hampers filled with treats to residents at Coppelia House care home.
The kind donations form part of the hotel’s Giving Back campaign, which is launched every year to support good causes at Christmas and ‘give back’ to its community.
Dean added: “When deciding who to support this year, our team really wanted to try and reach as many people as possible across varied parts of our community.
“Our local Community Fridge is a fantastic facility which is available to anyone who needs it, free of charge, whilst we have close ties to Coppelia House care home having supported them for many years. We’re really pleased to be extending our support to them this year too.”
The hotel is also set to plant 60 new trees in its grounds next year as part of its pledge to donate a tree for each room booked on a package at Christmas and New Year.
Dean said: “Sustainability and the environment is an important part of Bovey Castle’s ethos – having recently won a Silver Green Tourism award for our commitment to green initiatives.
“These new trees will help to offset the carbon footprint of guests staying over the festive period and we look forward to watching them grow once planted in the new year.”
