A former patient from Torrington Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) has presented staff with a generous donation of £3,000 and thanked the staff for their care.

Sid Pascoe was admitted to Derriford Hospital for a triple bypass in December 2009 following an electrocardiogram (ECG).

The money was raised last year from a number of charity events held at Lostwithiel Golf Club while Sid was club captain. Supported by the club and its members, various events including raffles and a series of golf round auctions were held throughout the year to raise money for Sid’s chosen charity, Torrington CICU.

Sid’s wife Julie explained: “Thanks to the support and generosity of the members of the golf club we were delighted to be able to present the cheque at this year’s captain’s charity day to show our appreciation as without the wonderful work of the staff, Sid might not be here today.”

On hand to receive the donation was Matron Judith Frame and Ward Managers Sylvia Villaquiran and Natalie Howes from the Torrington Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.

Judith Frame, Matron said: “We were delighted to attend the charity day event and even more delighted to be given such a substantial amount of money that will be a great benefit to other patients in the unit. The donation will be used to purchase a multi function rehabilitation chair for patients requiring a longer intensive care stay post cardiac surgery.”
