Local dental team take on race for life to raise funds for cancer research
A team of orthodontic professionals in Plymouth recently took part in a 5K ‘Race for Life’ fundraising event to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
The myorthodontist Plymouth team are excited to reveal that they raised a grand total of £1,437.50 for the charity - one which is close to their hearts.
Commenting on the team’s participation, Orthodontic Therapist Jessica Harry, from myorthodontist Plymouth, shared: “I was keen to get everyone together to raise money for a great cause. I was personally inspired to raise money for Cancer Research UK as I lost my mum in 2009. Across the wider team here in Plymouth, we have all been impacted by cancer in some way and so, we all had someone to race for.”
Discussing the team’s favourite moments of the day, Jessica added: “The day was a mix of emotions for us all, but we made sure that we had fun. We enjoyed decorating our faces with glitter before the race and we all loved the Rock Choir singing to us as we ran, it certainly helped keep spirits high. The atmosphere on the day was incredible and crossing the finish line with all the support from the crowd on Plymouth Hoe was a great feeling.”
Jessica continued: “We also had such a great response from our patients. In the run up to the big day, it was talk of the practice. When we spoke to our patients about what we were doing, we found that many of them had also taken part in Race for Life before. We loved hearing their personal stories and getting tips from them.”
Touching on the team’s dedication, Jessica explained: “A couple of the practitioners chose to run the race and made sure they got their practise in by taking runs on Plymouth Hoe during their lunch breaks. Other team members are avid walkers and so, everyone felt equipped to take on the challenge.”
Jessica concluded: “This event has definitely inspired us to take on more charitable initiatives in the future and we're already planning our next one. It has bonded us as a team – and the sense of achievement shared by us all is a lovely feeling. Everyone is still on a high now! Whether they ran or walked, as a team, we had a great time and knowing that we’ve raised such an amazing amount money in the process, is a hugely rewarding feeling.”
The myorthodontist Plymouth team took part in the Race for Life alongside over one thousand participants. The event generated over £50,000 for Cancer Research UK in total.
