NHS Trust throws down gauntlet to staff for cup challenge

Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust is throwing down the gauntlet for staff in a Cup Challenge at this year’s Plymouth Half Marathon.

In teams each department that enters the 13.1 mile challenge submit their five fastest times, with the overall fastest group time earning the right to lift the coveted Challenge Cup.

The inter-departmental challenge, designed to foster healthy competition is now in its fifth year with current reigning champions staff from the Paediatrics department. Previous winning teams include Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (2009), Anaesthetics (2010) and Physiotherapy (2011).

The challenge is open to all staff groups including nurses, junior doctors, consultant, naval personnel and support staff. This year’s teams include Pharmacy, Orthopaedics the Anaesthetics team hoping to take back their former title and Finance who are running in support of the Neonatal Unit at Derriford Hospital.

Over 5,000 entries are expected for The Plymouth Half Marathon on Sunday 28 April 2013 but for one lucky Trust team completing the race will also mean victory in the staff Cup Challenge.
