Parkinson’s UK calls for Plymouth volunteers at fireworks extravaganza

Parkinson’s UK is looking to recruit volunteers from across the South West, to ensure a fireworks display goes off with a bang.

The charity is asking for local people to give up a couple of hours of their time to sell official programmes and collect donations, at the Annual British Fireworks Championship in Plymouth.

The event, which takes place at Plymouth Hoe on Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 August, is a fantastic opportunity to help raise awareness of the condition whilst enjoying a fantastic evening’s entertainment.

Zoe Steer, South West Regional Fundraiser at Parkinson's UK, explains: "This is a hugely popular event and we are delighted to once again be part of this special occasion.

“I would like to invite Plymouth residents to join us and volunteer a couple of hours of their time. With your help we can make the event a success and help get people talking about Parkinson’s.

“Every hour someone in the UK is told they have Parkinson’s, but at the moment there is no cure. I hope many people will be inspired to sign up and spare a few hours to help us to make a real difference to local people living with the condition.”

Volunteers are required from 6.00pm - 9pm. Refreshments and a free Parkinson's UK T-shirt will be provided.

The funds raised from the event will help the charity to improve the lives of those living with Parkinson’s in the South West.

All proceeds from programme sales will be received by Parkinson’s UK.

There are 127,000 people living with Parkinson’s in the UK, 12,200 of whom live in the South West.
