Plume of Feathers boost Gold Dust funds
A massive thank you to Neil Carhart, his grandson Lucas and the team from The Plume of Feathers, Pool, for kindly choosing Gold Dust to be one of the recipients of their annual charity fundraiser.
A cheque of £809.79 was presented to Anita Dykes, Matron for Paediatrics, which was raised through a 24 mile sponsored charity walk, which took approximately eight hours to complete and took the team along a rugged coast line, a car boot sale, an auction and a cake sale at The Plume of Feathers pub.
Neil said: “We have been holding charity events for the last four years. We always support The Royal British Legion and Combat Stress, and this year, I suggested that Gold Dust should be our other chosen charity.
“Gold Dust is very close to my heart as my grandson, Lucas, was treated at Derriford Hospital with Meningitis and had to stay in the High Dependency Unit on Level 12. I wanted to do something to say thank you for the fantastic care that he received.
“We can’t wait to see the money go towards something that really will benefit the children staying here and are looking forward to next year’s charity event.”
Anita said: “This really is a large amount of money that Neil Carhart, Lucas and the team from The Plume of Feathers have raised!
“I would like to thank all of the walkers, backroom support team and most importantly Duncan and Carol who make all the fundraising at the pub possible. We think you're all amazing and cannot wait to see Level 12 transform into something special. We couldn’t do it without you!”
The Gold Dust Appeal aims to raise £100,000 to create a friendly and inviting space within the children’s wards and corridors at Derriford Hospital, providing a welcoming, safe and caring environment where children can play and explore. Tactile trails and attractive play spaces with exciting, colourful displays will encourage young people to enjoy their surroundings, making a visit to hospital less worrying.
