Stagecoach staff in Plymouth have nominated ‘Children with Cancer’ for the company’s annual £500 charity donation.

During December, staff are asked to put forward suggestions for a £500 charity donation from each of Stagecoach’s four Devon depots. Driver Kev Kellow nominated Children with Cancer UK for the Plymouth donation after meeting local fundraiser Steve Goucher.

Since 1988 Children with Cancer UK has raised over £200 million to help fund research, improved treatments and support for children with cancer and their families. During the last three years, Steve has raised over £14,000 for the charity through running marathons and other fundraising events. Most recently, Steve has set social media alight with his musical talents, serenading shoppers in Morrison’s with songs including ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ from Les Miserables.

To say thank you, Steve popped down to the depot to join staff for a rendition of Christmas classic, Chris Rea’s ‘Driving Home for Christmas.’

Steve said: “When Kev told me I’d inspired him to nominate Children with Cancer for the depot’s charity donation I was made up. I really wanted to do something to say thank you – and what could be more appropriate than a sing-a-long to ‘Driving Home for Christmas’?”

Kev added “I was blown away when I saw Steve perform – and even more so when I heard about how much money he’d raised for such an incredible charity. I’m not too sure my singing voice is a match for Steve’s but joining in certainly raised our Christmas spirits!”
