Council launch Union Street Big Conversation

People in Stonehouse are being invited to have their say in shaping the future of Union Street.

The Union Street Big Conversation is being launched by Plymouth City Council on Monday 18th March. Residents and businesses are being asked to give their views on Union Street as it is today and help form a Community Vision for the future.

Councillor Chris Penberthy, Cabinet member for Co-operatives and Community Development said: “We need to find out what people who live and work in Stonehouse think of Union Street and vitally, how they want to see it being developed in the future. We’ve already had some initial feedback and there are lots of exciting ideas. We want Union Street to become the heart of a vibrant community and this is everyone’s opportunity to shape the plans.”

People can give their opinions by going online to the Council’s website at www.plymouth.gov.uk/Unionstreet and the Neighbourhood Regeneration Team will be out and about in the area in the next few months with the survey.

The Community Vision will sit alongside other planning policies and will also inform the Plymouth Plan. It will help shape a new identity for Union Street and attract future investment into the area.

The launch of the Big Conversation coincides with the opening of the Union Street Community Gallery. This project by Stonehouse Action is wrapping the windows of empty shops along Union Street in vibrant community art installations. One of the windows promotes the Union Street Big Conversation and highlights how people can make their views known and contribute to the area’s future development.
