Countryside enthusiasts needed to help shape policy

People with a keen interest in our local countryside are invited to join the Devon Countryside Access Forum (DCAF) to help improve recreational opportunities for people to enjoy the great outdoors.

The Forum, now about to enter its 10th year of operation is supported by Devon County Council and is an independent and statutory advisory body. It currently has 15 volunteer members who meet several times a year to consider policy issues aimed at making the countryside more accessible and enjoyable.

If you would like an opportunity to get involved in discussing and advising on recreational opportunities and access why not apply to be a member of the Devon Countryside Access Forum. 

To give an example, in the last year the Forum has advised the Independent Panel on Forestry on the importance of forests for walking, cycling and horse-riding; district councils on Dog Control Orders and Devon County Council on its forthcoming draft Cycling Strategy. 

If you are enthusiastic about recreational access to the countryside of urban green space, or have a professional involvement we would like to hear from you.  Equally you may be a landowner or land manager who is affected by recreational access on your land and your input is also vital to our debates.

The next meeting of the Devon Countryside Access Forum is being held at Larkbeare House, Exeter on Tuesday, 22nd January at 10.00. James Pascoe, SW Outdoor Consultant with the National Trust, will be giving a presentation on the Trust and access. 

Dr Justin Robbins, Chairman of the DCAF, said:

"If you would enjoy sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm for Devon's countryside with a group of open-minded but diverse people then you'd enjoy volunteering for our Forum.  You will gain an insight into the many, sometimes complex issues that are relevant to access and Rights of Way."

The closing date for applications is Monday 18 February 2013. Applications would be particularly welcome from those with disabilities and young people.
