Plympton Academy students visit Britannia Royal Naval College

A group of Plympton Academy sixth form students spent the day at Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth recently to find out about a career in the Royal Navy.

The students were taken on a tour of the facilities and enjoyed spending time on the bridge simulator, learning about what a ship’s navigator might encounter. They heard about the recruiting and training process fromseveral enthusiastic and knowledgeable members of staff and were impressed by the College’s illustrious history.

“I thought that the experience was very eye opening and allowed me to gain a better understanding of the Navy and the different roles that are involved. I really enjoyed my time at the college and it has made me think about what I want to do in the future,” said student, Charlotte Hore.

Fellow sixth form student, Nathan Williams, agreed. “The information I was given was very helpful. The insight I gained into recruitment into the Armed Forces, especially as a Royal Marines officer, has assisted me with deciding what I want to do with my career.”

The visit was part of a wider careers programme at the Academy, designed to engage students with employers across a range of industries and sectors.
