Secondary school place allocations announced for September 2018

The number of young people applying for a secondary school place has increased this year, as thousands of primary pupils in Plymouth find out which school they will be going to this September.

The Council have confirmed that 87 per cent of young people received their first choice of school, 7.68 per cent their second and 2.36 per cent their third. Less than three per cent did not receive any of the schools they listed as a preference.

Letters and emails confirming school places for September 2018 have been sent to parents and schools have also been given the admissions information relating to their children, so parents are also able to ask teachers directly for confirmation of their child’s secondary school place.

Parents must respond to their allocation of a school place for their child within the next two weeks. For those that applied for their place online, the easiest way to respond is through their online account. If parents do not make a response, the allocated place could be withdrawn and offered to someone else.

Councillor Terri Beer Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said: “We’re extremely pleased that yet again we have been able to match the overwhelming majority of young people with their first choice of secondary school. We understand how emotive the decision of secondary schooling is for parents and our school admissions team aims to match as many parent’s requests as they possibly can. Dates will be announced on the Council’s website shortly for parents who want their child to be considered for a grammar school place in September 2019.
