A student from Bideford College, part of Athena Learning Trust, has won the regional final of the Rotary Young Chef Competition.

Josie’s desert was rated outstanding with full marks and she will now take part in the cluster finals.

The Rotary Young Chef competition, proudly sponsored by Filippo Berio, the renowned olive oil producer, offers participants the opportunity to hone their culinary skills while being judged by top industry professionals.

The winner of the Rotary Young Chef National Final will be awarded a fantastic two-day trip to Tuscany, where they will take part in cookery classes to discover the secrets of authentic Italian cuisine.

At Bideford College, students gain valuable knowledge in food preparation and nutrition. The dedicated staff ensure that students leave with the ability to cook a variety of healthy meals. In addition to this, students are introduced to key hospitality concepts such as teamwork, food presentation, and essential kitchen safety practices.

Dr Claire Ankers, Principal at Bideford College and Atlantic Academy said: “We are absolutely delighted with Josie’s achievement in the Rotary Young Chef competition. Her dedication and talent in the kitchen have truly paid off, and we couldn’t be more proud. This is a fantastic example of the hard work and passion our students put into everything they do, and we wish Josie the best of luck as she progresses to the cluster finals in Bristol!”
