Tens of thousands of spectators are expected to attend the MTV Crashes two-day music event, which continues on Plymouth Hoe.

Today's Plymouth Herald produced a spectacular front page cover celebrating the opening night (pictured).

Plymouth City Council, which is organising the event in partnership with MTV, is urging people to plan their journeys and use public transport where possible. For general bus information and times call Traveline South West on 0871 200 2233 or visit www.travelinesw.com.

Park and ride services will be running later on both nights for people leaving the event and Plymouth Citybus is arranging extra buses from Royal Parade to help people get home. Buses will run until queues have cleared.

Several city centre car parks will be open until midnight, including Civic Centre, Colin Campbell Court, Drake Circus, Elphinstone, Guildhall, Theatre Royal and Western Approach. Anyone dropping people off or picking people up is asked to use one of these car parks. Car park locations can be found at www.plymouth.gov.uk/carparks.

A number of road closures and ‘no parking’ restrictions will be in place around the Hoe.

Tuesday 21 to Friday 24 July, 7am until midnight
• Hoe Road closed from the Royal Citadel to Madeira Road. No parking.
• Lockyer Street closed from the Esplanade to the Hoe promenade. No parking.
• No parking on the Armada Way ‘loop’ outside the Holiday Inn or between the pitch and putt and the bowling green on Citadel Road. (These roads may need to be closed to traffic at busier times to provide safe access for pedestrians.)

Wednesday 22 to Friday 24 July, 7am until midnight
• Princess Ope closed

Wednesday 22 to Friday 24 July, 10.30pm until midnight
• Citadel Road closed from Lockyer Street to Hoe Approach
• Notte Street closed from Hoe Approach to the Crescent
• Princess Street closed from Lockyer Street to Princess Ope

Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 July, 10.30pm until midnight
• Lockyer Street closed from the Esplanade to Notte Street

A small section of the cycle lane on Hoe Road will also be closed from Monday 20 to Friday 24 July.

There will also be limited access to the Hoe over the next week while the event infrastructure is being built and following the events. Details of the build schedule can be found at www.visitplymouth.co.uk/mtv.

Deputy Council Leader Peter Smith said: “This event attracts tens of thousands of spectators and to ensure everyone has the best time it’s important for people to take a few minutes to plan ahead. There will be increased traffic into the city so everyone is advised to allow extra time for this when travelling.

“There are also a number of terms and conditions, such as what you can and can’t bring to the event and the ratio of how many children are allowed per adult. To avoid any disappointment I urge people to ensure they have fully read and understood these before attending the events.

“It’s going to be a great couple of days – let’s enjoy them!”

There will be two main entry points to the site on both days: Gate A near the Holiday Inn on Citadel Road and Gate B on Hoe Road. Gates will open at 3.30pm on Wednesday 22 July and 3pm on Thursday 23 July. Queuing is expected and this could take up to two hours at peak times.

When reaching the gate entrance, you will need to show your ticket (displaying the official hologram). This will be exchanged for a wristband which will need to worn at all times. Anyone without a ticket can purchase them at the box office, located at Gate A, on Tuesday (1pm to 8.30pm), Wednesday (9am to 11.30pm) and Thursday (9am to 8pm), subject to availability.

Search procedures will be in operation and any prohibited items will be confiscated. These include food and drink, chairs, umbrellas, flags, flares, any illegal substances and glass. Each person will be allowed to take up to 500ml of water into the site, as long as it is in a plastic container with an unbroken seal. Sunscreen and sunblock are also allowed. Food and drink will be available to purchase at the event. For a full list of items that can and cannot be taken see the terms and conditions at www.visitplymouth.co.uk/mtv.

Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied at the event by an adult (18 or over), with a maximum of three children per adult.

Councillor Smith added: “These events are held for people to enjoy and have a good time. The weather can play an important part in that and taking precautions as necessary, such as staying hydrated or wearing waterproof clothing, are essential. Follow the Council and Visit Plymouth on social media for regular updates about how the forecast is looking.”
