Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery is travelling the globe with its family-friendly events in late January and early February.

Children and their adults can discover some of the strange creatures that live in the coldest places on the planet in ‘A Cold World’ on Saturday 18 January. From giant sea spiders to woolly rhinoceros teeth fossils there will be many different things to see, as well as fun activities such as creating your own woolly mammoth and making a giant sea spider.

Admission is free and there is no need to book. Activities will run from 11am to 4pm with last entries at 3.30pm and people are welcome to drop in for as little or as long as they like.

On Saturday 25 January the Museum will be celebrating the start of the Chinese New Year with a series of fun 60-minute craft sessions. ‘Happy Horses’ will run from 11am, 1.30pm and 3pm and children will get to make masks, lanterns, decorations and more. Admission is free but advance booking is essential via the Museum’s Welcome Desk or by calling 01752 304774.

Finally, on Saturday 1 February, ‘Tales from the Wild Wild West’ will mark National Storytelling Week 2014. Children and parents can join the Museum’s professional storyteller for some fun tales from the wild occupants and wilder landscapes of the ancient West Country kingdom. Sessions will run from 1.30pm to 2.15pm and 2.30pm to 3.15pm and are suitable for children aged four and over. Wrigglers and siblings are also welcome. Admission is free and there is no need to book.

The City Museum and Art Gallery has a packed programme of family-friendly activities throughout the year - many of which are free. For full details visit the What’s On pages at www.plymouthmuseum.gov.uk.
