Plymouth to host Marvel-lous event

Special guests including Dalek’s from Dr Who, the Ghostbusters and Film and TV Special Effects expert, Graham Brown, will be among those attending DEV CON – Plymouth’s biggest sci-fi and Marvel comic fair.

Organised by Events Frontier this family event is a one stop shop for all sci-fi fans. Taking place in the Plymouth Guildhall on Saturday 30 May from 10.30am to 4pm visitors will be able to enjoy a day of family fun, meet film and TV guest signers, follow a children’s ghost hunt and take part in Strategy Board Gaming.

There will also be a wealth of traders, selling a huge array of amazing stock and artist offering never seen before items.

Visitors will get a rare and exclusive opportunity to meet two of the actual Daleks from the original set of Dr Who.  In addition children will be able to try their hand at Itasha Racing with the giant Scalextrics track, or take part in a ‘Hunt the ghost competition’.

Children can seek these ghosts out on their own or join the Pilgrim Ghost Busters in their search for the dastardly creatures between 1pm-3pm.  Every child that finds all of the ghosts will go into a draw and there will be a prize at the end of the day, for the name drawn out of the Ghosts Busters Bag.

Guests signers include Graham Brown, Film and TV Special Effects Expert, and Gary Webb, Film and TV Special Action Vehicles Specialist as well as Johnny Mains, award winning author Editor and Horror Historian.

Graham Brown will be offering visitors a question and answer session from 1pm  to 2pm. Graham has worked in the film and television industry for the best part of 40 years, as Producer, Director & extensively as Special Effects Supervisor.

He has been involved with 'Doctor Who' since the 1970's and with the exception of William Hartnell, he has worked with all the 'old' doctors.  He also consulted when 'Doctor Who' was resurrected.  His other credits include ‘Pride & Prejudice', 'Silent Witness', 'The Waking Dead', plus many more for BBC Television Drama.  Attendees will be able to come and learn how some of the amazing special effects are achieved.

Gary Webb, will be sharing how he got his first steps on the ladder of the ‘Working world of the TV & Film industry’.  Visitors can learn all about the many films he has worked on, including Bat Man, Harry Potter, James Bond and Judge Dredd. Gary will be offering a question and answer between 1.15 to 1.14pm, when he will be more than happy to chat to visitors about his experiences.

Johnny Mains is the author of two short story collections and editor of five horror anthologies.  His credits include, Horror Book Author & Acclaimed editor of the highly popular Pan Stories.  He has a real passion for the written word & is eager to share his vast knowledge & experience with likewise fans.

Tickets can be bought in advance via Pay Pal, from Final Frontier, 132 Cornwall Street, Plymouth, Exeter & St Austell, or purchased on the day at the Guildhall.  Entrance is £3 each for adults and tickets for a family of 4 (up to three 8-16 year olds) is £10.  Children under 8 free can attend the event for free.  VIP tickets, which includes entry into the event from 9.30am and fast track to signers, are £7 each. Tickets do not include costs of autographs.
