Acclaimed author, podcaster, and folklorist Mark Norman is set to discuss his groundbreaking new book at an event at Dartington Hall this September. Combining academic analysis with one of pop culture’s most memorable names, ‘Zoinks! The Spooky Folklore Behind Scooby Doo’ is set to be published on October 17th by Oak Tree Books and Chinbeard Books.

Norman, a Devon resident and the host of the hugely popular Folklore Podcast, explores the myths, legends, and otherworldly phenomena that inspired the Scooby-Doo cartoons across the iconic show's 55-year history.

“Scooby-Doo has drawn heavily on real-world myths, legends, and folklore from cultures around the world,” says author Mark Norman. “It’s also had a massive influence on popular culture and generated more than a few urban myths.”

About The Book

Mystery Incorporated – Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo – have been investigating supernatural events for over fifty years and, in that time, there has never been a serious study into the make-up of Scooby-Doo ... until now.

In this groundbreaking book, extensively researched and written with input from a number of the animated show’s writers and producers, folklorist and author Mark Norman – creator of the popular multi-million downloaded show The Folklore Podcast – investigates the actual folklore behind all of your favourite Scooby-Doo episodes.

And even some featuring Scrappy too.

How has the show drawn on real-world folklore in its representations of ghosts, witches, monsters and more? It's time to pull off the mask and reveal the truth behind the fiction.

This event will see the author guiding attendees through the myths and legends that have influenced the show’s portrayal of ghosts, ghouls, witches, monsters and, of course, it’s iconic villains.

The event will be followed by an opportunity to meet the author, who will be signing copies of his new book.

The event will take place at Dartington Hall, South Devon on September 28th. Tickets to the event are priced at £10, or £25 with a copy of ‘‘Zoinks! The Spooky Folklore Behind Scooby Doo’.
