Björk musician brings ‘Adventures in Music’ to Museum and Art Gallery

A musician who has just returned from touring the world as the drummer and Hang player for famous Icelandic singer Björk will lead a special music event for under-fives at the City Museum and Art Gallery on Friday 27 September.

Manu Delago, who has been described as a 'masterful and sensitive musician' (The Telegraph), will introduce young visitors to the Hang - one of the newest and most fascinating instruments in the world.

The Hang was invented just over a decade ago in Switzerland and is a UFO-shaped hand-played sound sculpture. The violin and double bass will also be included in a session called ‘Hooray for the Hang!’ inspired by elements of jazz, pop and classical music.

The session is part of the Museum’s ‘Adventures in Music’ series which is supported by PRS for Music Foundation’s New Music Plus…UK and aims to introduce pre-school children and their grown-ups to different types of music, instruments and cultures.

Manu’s solo career began in 2007 when he uploaded a video onto Youtube in which he plays the Hang. The video is now the most popular Hang video on the internet and has been viewed more than four million times. Soon after, the 'virtuoso on the Hang' (The Times) formed his own band which has since played concerts on five continents.

Tickets for the event, which will run from 11am to 11.45am cost £4.50 per adult and £3 per child Accompanying children under the age of two will not need a ticket. Places are limited and advance booking is strongly recommended.
