Playday at West Hoe Park come rain or shine
Families looking for a playful place to play need look no further than West Hoe Park for a fun and free event during the school holidays.
National Playday takes place every year across the country and this year it happening on Wednesday 7 August.
Plymouth’s event will take place from 11am until 4pm at West Hoe Park, which will be packed with free novel and exciting attractions including water play, den building, a climbing wall, bouncy castles, face painting, junk modelling, storytelling, craft activities and an under-fives play area.
The UK-wide event has grown year on year and now attracts thousands to locations across the country. Locally it is organised by Plymouth City Council and is supported by many local businesses and organisations.
This year’s theme is ‘Playful Places’ and asks people to recognise that children should feel welcomed where they live and feel part of their community and they need to be involved in planning the places and spaces where they play.
Councillor Nicky Williams, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “As a parent myself, I completely understand the importance of taking time out of your busy schedule to play with your child. Our Playday provides the perfect opportunity for families to enjoy free, fun, quality time together.”
The day is organised by the Council’s Education, Learning and Family Support department and is supported by the National Lottery, Plymouth Play Association and other community organisations providing services for children and young people.
Hoe Road will be closed from 8am until 6pm so families can enjoy the fun without the need to worry about traffic passing nearby.
Everyone is welcome to the free event, but all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Call 01752 307021 for more information.
Families are asked to bring a picnic lunch, some sun cream, a hat and maybe an umbrella just in case!
