The CATERed Big Summer Food Tour is back!
The CATERed Big Summer Food Tour is back! After the huge success of 2015 the CATERed team are delighted to be able to hand out delicious, healthy free lunches once again.
Ed’s Big Summer Food Tour Two will help make sure that some children who would normally receive free school meals are not missing out during the long summer holiday.
Providing extra meals during school holidays can be a real struggle for many families and there is evidence that the city’s food banks experience a peak in demand during the school holidays.
Managing Director of CATERed Brad Pearce said: “Last year’s Ed’s Big Summer Food Tour was a huge success and in several of the locations we picked children were actually waiting for us to arrive. When the schools close their doors in July it can be a real struggle for parents who for the majority of the year are able to rely on our school meals to ensure that their child gets fed at lunch times.
“We have made sure we are going to more locations across the city this year so we are able to reach more children. We’ve also linked with our schools to provide locations within the school grounds at Mayflower Community Academy and High Street Primary School.
“I’d like to thank Tamar Fresh, Scorse and Bidvest for their continued support by providing all the food this year again and to our amazing staff who have given up some of their Summer Holidays to help us. By all joining together in a true cooperative spirit we are able to provide even more children with a free delicious healthy bagged lunch.”
The CATERed team, will be dishing out the free lunches to children at the following locations and dates:
Tuesday 2 August – Central Park (by the children’s play park)
Thursday 4 August – High Street Primary School
Tuesday 9 August – Whitleigh Green
Thursday 11 August – Mayflower Academy grounds
Tuesday 16 August – City Centre, outside the Civic Centre
Thursday 18 August – High Street Primary
Tuesday 23 August – Whitleigh Green
Thursday 25 August – High View Primary School, Efford
Tuesday 30 August – Asda - Estover
Thursday 1 September – Central Park (by the children’s play park)
Brad continued: “Ed’s Big Summer Food Tour is also a great opportunity for us to talk directly with parents to remind them that our schools meals are not as expensive as they might think.
"For just £2.00 a day, that’s less than a cup of takeaway coffee, their child will have a great tasting, freshly prepared two course school dinner.
"For other parents it’s a chance to remind them that every child in Key Stage 1 (aged four to seven) is entitled to universal free school meals that you don’t have to be on benefits to take advantage.”
CATERed will be giving out 300 bagged lunches each day on a first come first served basis so any families who would like a free lunch for their children are urged to arrive early. Radio Plymouth’s lighthouse crew will also be there providing free face painting.
