Devon and Cornwall Food Association delighted with Surplus IT donation
The Devon and Cornwall Food Association’s administrative duties will be a lot easier now thanks to Alex & Sonia Hosking from Surplus Waste Electricals (Surplus WEEE CIC) who have donated three computers, a laser jet printer and a new telephone. Sonia and Alex then spent time networking all the equipment up to aid those working in the DCFA (Plymouth) office.
Surplus WEEE CIC is a 'not for profit' organisation specialising in recycling of redundant electrical equipment. As a Social Enterprise, Surplus WEEE CIC is dedicated to providing funds for schools, donating free computers to charities and those in need. Sonia Hosking has recently been nominated for the Natwest Venus Awards and as a result Surplus WEEE are finalists in the Green Business of the Year Award.
The Devon and Cornwall Food Association (DCFA) prevents good in-date food from going to landfill and currently distributes this food, free of charge, to 40 local charities who feed the disadvantaged in the local community. To date, over £120,000 of food has been saved - this is 90 tonnes of food that would have gone to waste, and which has saved 25 tonnes of C02.
Charlie Taylor of DCFA said “We cannot thank Sonia and Alex enough for their continued support over the last few weeks. They have been enormously generous to DCFA and we wish them the best of luck at the Natwest Venus Awards. They really are making a brilliant contribution to the community.”
