A luxury Devon hotel is ready, set, go for a colourful new culinary offering to tie in with the Olympics in Paris.

Five-star hotel Bovey Castle, in Newton Abbot, is launching an Olympics-themed afternoon tea for guests to sample during the course of the famous multi-sports event in France.

Diners can indulge in a Smoked Salmon & Sour Cream Crêpe and a Croque Monsieur, in homage to the host nation, and there are also nods on the menu to celebrated Olympics past.

The sandwich selection is made up of Roast Beef & Horseradish (England 2012), Barbeque Chicken & Avocado (Brazil 2016), Smoked Salmon with Soy Sauce (Japan 2020) and Hoisin Smoked Duck (China 2022).

And those with a sweet tooth can try a Gold Medal Macaroon, a United Kingdom Battenburg (in the colours of the Union Jack) and an Olympic Flame with Strawberry Butter Cream, among other delectable treats.

The sports-themed afternoon tea, priced at £45 will be available for hotel guests and non-hotel guests from July 26 to August 31 and follows hot on the heels of Olympics-themed breaks at Bovey Castle, set in the heart of picturesque Dartmoor National Park.

The promotion allows guests to try archery, golf, air rifle shooting, tennis and cycling - all sports that will be on show at the Olympics and Paralympics – as part of their stay in one of the resort’s luxury three-bedroom lodges for a minimum of two nights and before August 31.

One of Devon’s premier tourist destinations, Bovey Castle boasts a 60-bedroom manor house, 22 private lodges, the 3AA Rosette Great Western Grill restaurant and 1AA Rosette Smith’s Brasserie; as well as a luxury Elan Spa experience.

Dean Gunston, General Manager at Bovey Castle, said the resort’s new afternoon tea was the perfect way to toast the Olympics and all it stands for.

He said: “The Olympics and Paralympics capture the imagination like no other sports events on the planet. Millions around the world tune in, despite the time difference, which says a lot about the sports action on offer.

“With everything that is going on at the moment, never has the Olympic Movement - and its bid to build a peaceful, better world by educating youth through sport - been more important.

“We thought it would be great to celebrate the arrival of the Olympics and Paralympics with our very own culinary tribute.

“Our Executive Head Chef Mark Budd along with his team have tapped into their creative sides to deliver a vibrant and delicious menu that tips a cap to the events in Paris.

“We think it’s a really nice follow-on from our Olympics-themed breaks which have been incredibly popular with holidaymakers looking for a sporty yet relaxing stay - all in the idyllic surrounds of Dartmoor National Park, an Area of Outstanding Beauty.

“The menu promises to be another hit and is sure to deliver gold for our guests!”
