Autism drop-in at Central Library

Have you, a friend or family member recently been diagnosed with autism? Would you like to know more about the information and support available to you?

Plymouth City Council’s library service is running drop-in sessions for anyone on the autistic spectrum, their family and carers.

Staff will help you find books and resources and access online information, give you useful information about statutory services and signpost you to other community services that can support you.

The informal sessions will be a chance to meet others in the same situation, share thoughts and discuss any issues you might have. They will take place twice a month at the Central Library, starting from Saturday 22 November at 11.30am.

Councillor Sue McDonald, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Adult Social Care, said: “Previous library drop-ins have highlighted how important it is for people with autism and their carers to have access to impartial advice and good quality information. One person who attended a session said they had learnt more about their son’s condition in 45 minutes than they had in five years.”

Deputy Council Leader Peter Smith added: “Our libraries have books and resources on a wide range of health, wellbeing and social care issues and staff can help you access online information and community support services.”
