Latest Dr Foster data benchmarks Trust as one of the best in the country for low mortality rates

The Dr Foster Hospital Guide 2013 brings good news for our patients and staff, as it shows that Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust has one of the best survival rates in the country.

According to latest, independent figures published today by Dr Foster Intelligence as part of the Dr Foster Hospital Guide 2013, we have a mortality ratio which is approximately 12% better than expected, making Plymouth Hospitals one of the best in the region and among the best hospital trusts in the country.

The Hospital Standardised Mortality Ratios (HSMRs) tells patients whether, given the age, sex, social deprivation and diagnosis of patient’s admitted, a hospital’s death rate is better or worse than the average. The data in the Dr Foster Hospital Guide shows that Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust’s mortality ratio is 88.21, which is significantly lower than expected and among the best hospitals in the country.

Dr Phil Hughes, Medical Director, said: “We are very proud to have one of the lowest ratios in the region and to be among the best hospital trusts in the country for our HSMR.
