Love your heart - get health advice at Stoke Library
Stoke Library is hosting a special event on Friday 28 February where you can get advice on how to keep your heart healthy.
The Hearty Lives event, which runs from 11am-2pm, will also include free exercise taster sessions and blood pressure checks, as well as advice about weight management.
The aim of the day is to highlight factors associated with an increased risk of heart disease.
There's a chance to try Tai Chi at midday and The Elder Tree will be hosting an 'Active Steps' seated exercise session at 1pm. The Stroke Association will also be on hand to provide free blood pressure checks and will have advice and tips on how you can maintain a healthy blood pressure.
Free refreshments will be available to all and anyone who isn’t yet a library member can join on the day.
Councillor Sue McDonald, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Adult Social Care, said: “The Hearty Lives event will provide lots of useful tips on managing your weight and blood pressure, as well as give you a chance to check the health of your heart and try out some low intensity exercise.”
Deputy Leader of the Council, Peter Smith said: “Plymouth’s libraries offer a wide range of health information and advice and events like this help to make people more aware of the help that’s available to them.”
The Council’s library service provides information on a range of health, wellbeing and social care issues and services. This includes a selection of health titles in all libraries and staff trained to help you find good quality health information and support.
