Skincare during the cold months: 7 tips
Keeping a comprehensive skincare routine on a daily basis is hugely important for groomed, glowing skin. But when the temperatures get closer to freezing, you will have to adjust that routine a bit to still provide your skin with good care. The cold dries it out quickly, which is something you obviously prefer to avoid. Here are 6 tips for healthy skin in autumn.
-
Moisturise as much as possible
The secret of Korean skincare? Moisturise the skin as much as possible, especially during the colder months. Use heavy, moisturising creams to soften the skin and build a barrier against cold air. That way, you compensate for moisture loss.
-
Exfoliate less
Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells, but don't overdo it as it can irritate the skin during the colder period. Reduce the number of exfoliations and use a milder variety to keep skin smooth. Once or twice a week is more than enough.
-
Avoid showers that are too hot
A hot shower or nice hot bath can be hugely relaxing after a long working day, but do you want to maintain glowing skin all year round? Then don't take too many, as they dry out the skin. Instead, opt for lukewarm water so that the natural oils don't disappear.
-
Protect against the sun
Protection from the sun only seems important in the summer months, but this is equally true in the winter months. Because even though you may not see the sun as much through the clouds, it is definitely there and can damage your skin if you do not wear sunscreen. Choose at least SPF 30.
-
Avoid substances that irritate the skin
During the colder months, always choose products that do not contain irritants, and are therefore suitable for sensitive winter skin. For example, perfumes and products containing alcohol are best left out if you do not want to cause red bumps or spots.
-
Use oil-based products
Maybe oil-based products are already integrated into your skincare routine, but isn't this the case yet? Then be sure to do so during the colder period of the year. Facial oils, for example from ‘Beauty of Joseon’, offer an extra layer of hydration, preventing the skin from drying out.
-
Use face masks
Finally, take the time to apply a moisturising face mask a few times a month. Check the packaging to verify the presence of ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, shea butter or aloe vera. These give the skin a hydration boost and are recommended for this reason.
