Further road works in September
Plymouth City Council will continue its extensive road resurfacing programme in September.
Eight more Plymouth roads are due to be resurfaced in September as part of the major five month programme to repair some of the most severely damaged roads in Plymouth.
Five roads will be fully closed for between one to three days throughout the period. Diversion routes will be signposted and resident access maintained where possible.
Highways contractor Amey began the programme in July and is resurfacing whole roads and large sections of road that suffered the worst damage after the prolonged wet weather last winter.
As well as resurfacing, the works include structural reconstruction to the worst affected areas and they are being carried out alongside the Council’s day-to-day road maintenance programme.
Councillor Mark Coker, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “During August works were carried out in Eggbuckland, Honicknowle, Compton, Plympton,, Ham, Cattedown and Plymstock. Roads included Biggin Hill and Hill Crest Drive, which suffered quite severe deterioration and multiple potholes after the severe winter months.
“Road repairs continue to be a major priority for the Council, despite cuts to highways funding by central Government and this programme is making significant improvements to our city’s road network.”
All of the resurfacing and reconstruction works for September will be carried out between 6pm and 6am.
