BBC Gardener’s World presenter, Adam Frost will be visiting Otter Garden Centres in Ottery St Mary on September 21 to offer expert advice and tips.

Award-winning garden designer Adam will be hosting two events: a morning Q&A session followed by an afternoon demonstration of container planting.

Adam began his professional career in the mid-1980s with an apprenticeship at the North Devon Parks Department.  A move to Rutland found him working with Geoff Hamilton at Barnsdale Gardens, helping to design and create many of the 38 small gardens which are still on show to the public today.

As well as Gardener’s World, Adam is a regular presenter of the BBC’s coverage of RHS Flower Shows and has featured on The One Show, DIY SOS and The Alan Titchmarsh Show. His first book, Real Gardens, was published in 2015, followed three years later by How to Create Your Garden. In March 2022 he published The Creative Gardener, a very personal book of the garden projects he created during lockdown.

Otter’s Marketing Manager, Chris Amphlett says, “We’re thrilled to have Adam coming to meet our customers in Ottery. It’s a great chance to learn from his expertise, join in discussions and share experiences with fellow gardening enthusiasts.”

Those purchasing tickets for the Q&A, which starts at 10am, will be able to submit questions for Adam ahead of the session, including photographs of plants or garden issues they would like advice about, such as insufficient sunlight or managing tricky soil conditions.

The afternoon demonstration kicks off at 2pm, with a focus on planting the perfect container. Adam will demonstrate techniques and share expert tips for every step, from selecting the right containers for particular planting designs, choosing the best-growing medium, layering plants to designing a container garden. He will also discuss methods of looking after planted containers to ensure they provide a long-lasting display.

The ticket price includes a drink and cake, goody bag and a copy of The Creative Gardener (RRP £20) and are available to purchase on Otter’s website.
