Science Park becomes first Zero to Landfill business park in Devon

PLYMOUTH Science Park has become the first Zero to Landfill business park in Devon.

The site, which houses 80 businesses and 800 employees on the 25 acre site near Derriford, has partnered with Devon Contract Waste as part of their green strategy to minimise their impact on the environment.

Plymouth Science Park Director of Operations Christian Jenkins said: “Plymouth Science Park are delighted to be partnering Devon Contract Waste for the provision of waste recycling services.

“PSP are committed to a green strategy that minimises our impact on our environment and DCW are the perfect partner to help us achieve this. Steve Whiteway presented a very compelling reason why DCW should partner PSP and we are very pleased to be the first Zero to Landfill business park in Devon.

“For the park it is the beginning of a programme that will see us adopt a series of initiatives including our green travel plan, renewable energy, rainwater harvesting and 100% local sourcing.

Devon Contract Waste are dedicated to providing the very best sustainable solution for commercial waste producers in Devon. Their Managing Director environmentalist Simon Almond said: “Our services are currently in high demand and we pride ourselves as being not only the first and only Zero to landfill service in Devon, but also being proactive and innovative  and look forward to working with the park and its tenants with our comprehensive range of waste services, for all waste streams.”

Steve Whiteway, local manager for Zero to landfill  added ‘Zero to landfill is the only option for businesses in the South West as is  already the  case in most of Europe.

“We set the trend and have an eclectic mix of customers and many leading local manufacturers  and  key accounts such as  Princess Yachts, Fine Tubes, Permaban, Hymec, Barden, Plymouth Argyle, Ocean BMW and thousands of others.

“We are delighted to be working with Christian Jenkins  at PSP as a fellow member  organisation of the Plymouth Area Business Council and the superb Estates Team who worked with DCW to effect a very effective  recycling programme, which is tenant friendly  and  carbon reducing.”
