Charity brings Christmas cheer to children's wards

A generous Plymouth charity brought Christmas cheer and lots of cuddles to our children’s wards last week.

Representatives from Becca’s Bear dropped in to the Activity Centre on level 12 on Tuesday 16 December, armed with tons of teddy bears for donation to the children on the wards.

Santa and Build A Bear mascot, Bearemy were also on hand to help with distributing the bears amongst the children. The bears are all paid for by Becca’s Bear and are purchased from the Build-a-Bear workshop, in Drake Circus.

They are distributed to children in hospital to bring support and hugs to patients.

Each bear wears its own Becca’s Bear t-shirt and the Christmas ones also sport a Santa hat.

Sue Rodgers, Play Specialist Team Leader, said: “A visit from Becca’s Bear is always extremely popular with the children and this one was no exception.

It is lovely to see the smiles on their faces when they’re cuddling their new teddy.

“I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to Becca’s Bear for all of their donations throughout the year, the bears really do help to put smiles on so many of our children’s faces.”

Becca’s Bear was set up in 2010 by Plymouth man, Matt Connell, in memory of his wife Rebecca.

During her life, Rebecca spent a lot of time at Derriford Hospital as a patient, initially on the children’s wards and later as a patient on other wards and departments.
