Comedy night raises laughs and funds for hospital ward

A comedy night, organised by a patient and his wife, raised more than £1,300 for a Derriford neurosurgical ward.

Derek and Marian Hicks of Delabole, who were greatly appreciative of the “fantastic treatment” from staff on Moorgate Ward, organised the event to help raise funds.

More than 130 people attended the sold out night with local comedian Johnny Cowling, which was held at Bowood Golf Club in Camelford, last month and raised £1,345.

Presenting the cheque to Glad Baldry, Oncology Nurse Specialist and Joanna Eastley, Ward Manager on Thursday, the couple said: “We would like to thank everyone who attended on the night for their donations to a great cause and to Hayley, Angela and Pauline for making the event happen.”
