Tea dance raises over £500 for charity
An afternoon of dancing to lively music by 'Wally's Dance Party' was enjoyed by those attending a charity Tea Dance in the beautiful setting of Plymouth Guildhall on Friday 12th June 2015.
Despite the numbers attending being lower than hoped for (due to bad weather,) the afternoon which included a raffle raised a worthwhile £540 for the South West Mesothelioma Support Group, whilst at the same time raising awareness of asbestos related cancer.
The event was organised by mesothelioma patient Wally Wright and members of Mesothelioma and Asbestos Awareness Plymouth and SouthWest (MAAPS).
Wally said: "'Thanks to all those who helped set up, sell tickets and run the tea bar. Our gratitude also goes to asbestos specialist solicitors Novum Law for their support and sponsorship of the event. Needless to say, the biggest thanks go to all those who attended. MAAPS looks forward to seeing them, and more, at the next Tea Dance which will be held on Friday 31st July from 2pm until 4.30pm at Plymouth Guildhall. Tickets cost £6.00 and can be purchased on the door."
MAAPS is a support and friendship group for those diagnosed with an asbestos related condition. Carers and those bereaved also find great comfort and support in the meetings. Members meet on the last Thursday of each month at 12.30pm in the Copthorne Hotel, Plymouth. It is a small and friendly group of people and new members are always welcome.
