Call for Plymouth foodies to Eat Out to Help Out those in need 

A Plymouth-based restaurant is raising money to help relieve financial hardship of those working in the UK hospitality sector by asking guests to add a voluntary one pound to their bill. 

The initiative has been put in place by the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill, which is located on the top floor of the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Armada Way, and will run through December 2020 to March 2021. 

 Via the Black and White Foundation, the monies raised will be donated to three different charities including Hospitality Action, which supports members of the hospitality industry who are in financial difficulties, Pilot Light which is raising awareness of mental health issues within the sector, and Street Smart which tackles the issue of homelessness. 

General manager Phillip Rankin is now hoping diners will be generous enough to add the one pound to their bill which will then help those who need it most. 

He said: “It’s important that, where we can, we help those who are less fortunate than ourselves and although the hospitality sector, like many others, has been hit hard during the pandemic, it doesn’t mean we stop raising money and helping those in need. 

“One pound might not sound like a lot, however if collectively everyone who dines with us during this time contributes, it will mean quite a substantial pot of money to hand over.

“We’ve chosen these three beneficiaries as they are all linked to the hospitality sector, so resonates closely to the team who work here.”
