Schools join in National Roast dinner day
Thousands of Plymouth children will be tucking into a hearty roast dinner today as schools across the country celebrate national roast dinner day.
National Roast Dinner Day is all about celebrating fantastic school catering staff as well as celebrating how far we've come in improving school meals across the country
This year’s National Roast Dinner Day, organised by Food for Life is taking place right in the middle of National School Meals Week, which runs from Monday 2 to Friday 6 November.
National Roast Dinner Days celebrate school cooks and caterers who serve up tasty lunches daily, using seasonal, locally sourced, organic produce.
Managing Director of CATERed Brad Pearce said: “Throughout the year we know that our traditional roast dinner is one of our most popular meals of the week. Whether it’s the great tasting vegetables, roast potatoes or roasted meat pupils in schools across the city just love it!
“We normally serve our roasts on a Thursday but to join in with National Roast Dinner Day, and a whole range of special menus for National School Meals Week, we’ve moved the day to Wednesday.”
Leigh Anne Boyne, Catering Manager at High Street Primary School only recently joined CATERed at the start of this term. She and her team will be serving roast gammon or vegetable crumble with roast potatoes, gravy and seasonal vegetables and, for dessert apple crumble and custard. She said: “It’s one of the children’s favourite meals of the week so we’re expecting a high take-up!”
Louise Scott, Head Teacher of High Street Primary said: “We’re really excited to be taking part in National Roast Dinner day, it's one of the meals that all the children really enjoying tucking into.”
