Don't panic over confirmation and clearing at Plymouth University

Prospective students receiving A-level results this summer will be guided through the Confirmation and Clearing process by trained advisers at Plymouth University.

Thousands of applicants will receive their grades on Thursday 13 August and call the University’s special hotline to confirm their place or find out about spaces still available in September.

They will get through to one of 80 advisers, on hand to take the stress out of what can be a daunting time and guide new students through the transition to university life.

They could also be transferred to academics and tutors, who will be able to answer specific questions about their chosen subject and make sure it is the right option for them.

Before results day, and for the first time in 2015, students who have not already applied but would like to come to Plymouth will be able to pre-register their interest by completing a form on the www.plymouth.ac.uk website.

David Alder, Chief Marketing Officer at Plymouth University, said: “Far from being a time of panic, Confirmation and Clearing can be a period of great opportunity for those receiving their A-level results. It is a time when some of the best decisions are made, and we have many graduates now enjoying successful careers having made the choice to come to Plymouth through Clearing. We have many experts on hand ready to guide students, when they receive their results so my advice would be – don’t panic, pick up the phone and speak to us.”

The hotline, which deals with more than 4,000 calls annually, will be staffed from the moment A-level results are released on Thursday 13 August, finally closing at 4pm on Friday 21 August.

It will be supplemented with an interactive digital hub, which will provide the latest information – through social media outlets such as Twitter and Facebook – on course closures, vacancies and contact points and warn of any problems in the UCAS environment.

There will also be a specific schools and college hotline, which will deal directly with teachers who can pass the latest information to their own students.

Special Confirmation and Clearing Information Days will also take place on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August, to provide an opportunity for prospective students to have a last look and get a feel for the campus and culture.

David added: “People go through the Clearing process for all kinds of reasons, but whatever they might be we are here to help. With vacancies across a variety of subject areas, there will be a course to suit every individual, and contacting us could unlock a range of opportunities that they may not even have considered so far.”
