Plymouth College to open its doors for the morning
Interactive science displays, musical interludes, drama performances and sports demonstrations are just some of the activities on offer at the Plymouth College Open Morning this Saturday 7 October 2017.
The leading independent school opens its doors at Ford Park from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm. Visitors will have the chance to look around the school and meet some of our pupils, the Headmaster and the teaching staff, who will be on hand to talk about all aspects of school life.
Founded in 1877, Plymouth College is a co-educational, city-based day and boarding school providing education for boys and girls from the ages of 3 to 18. A forward-looking school with a successful history, this summer saw an excellent set of results for A-Level with 43% of all grades at A*, A, or equivalent, 66% of grades at A*- B and an overall pass mark of 99.4% and 43% of our GCSE results graded at A* or A.
We pride ourselves on small class sizes, allowing our teachers to get to know each pupil’s personal strengths, weaknesses and learning styles, ensuring that their individual needs are met. Significantly smaller class sizes are proven to improve academic achievement, and on average, Plymouth College pupils perform half a grade better in each GCSE taken than predicted previous attainment. A number of students achieve one grade higher than expected in each subject.
Once again, Plymouth College topped the DfE League Tables in Plymouth and the surrounding area, with an increased value added score of 0.34. Our actual grades and our value added were far stronger than any of the other schools in the city, whether selective or non-selective, placing us in the top three schools (Independent and State) in Devon and Cornwall for the second successive year.
