The Pauline Quirke Academy is a weekend performing arts school for 4-18 year olds which runs every Saturday morning at The Soundhouse, Tor Bridge High, Plymouth. Actress Pauline

Quirke told us, “When we opened our first Academy in 2007 our mission was simply to provide the very best performing arts education. We've grown a lot since then, but that mission hasn't changed. By working with people we believe are outstanding in their field, we aim to bring the widest, most exciting experience to our students in an environment that is both friendly and rewarding.”

Pauline Quirke is a believer in the power of drama to change lives and the importance of making theatre skills available to all youngsters regardless of means so every year PQA provides one scholarship place to every single Academy- that’s 128 scholarship places up for grabs across the UK. One scholarship place was awarded to Maria, who travels from Cornwall every Saturday to attend the Plymouth academy.

Maria said ‘It felt really amazing to know I’d won a scholarship place. My favourite performance so far has been Cats because I love Musical Theatre. We are performing at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London next September and I’m so excited to perform on a big stage in front of lots of people. Thank you Sophie (Principal) for this amazing opportunity’

PQA’s core modules in Comedy & Drama, Musical Theatre and Film & Television teach a comprehensive range of skills, which are useful for everyday life, not just a career in the performing arts. To find out more visit www.pqacademy.com
