The aliens have landed: Cockington Court launches summer of fun with space-themed sculpture trail
Cockington Court has launched its summer holiday season with a space themed sculpture trail. Doctor Who has even landed the Tardis to join in the fun!
The trail leads visitors around the grounds of Cockington Court and into the Manor House, featuring 29 unique sculptures created by local artists and sculptors. The annual Sculpture Trail is popular with art and culture enthusiasts and families alike, with thousands exploring the trail every year.
Visitors are in for an extra treat this year as the trail also features a Tardis – the Time Lord’s iconic police box time machine. This particular Tardis was created in 2015 during the Christopher Eccleston Doctor Who reboot and used at various red-carpet events and in the BBC Studios tour. Over the years, it also featured in several Doctor Who episodes during the reigns of David Tennant and Matt Smith as The Doctor.
Cockington Court Director, Marissa Wakefield, said: ‘‘The aliens have landed at Cockington Court this summer! There are dozens of spaced themed sculptures hiding around our grounds, waiting to be discovered by intrepid explorers. The free sculpture trail is one of the key events in our calendar and is a wonderful way for people of all ages to access and enjoy art.
‘‘We’re also thrilled to be displaying our very own Doctor Who Tardis. The police box time machine has become iconic in British popular culture and fits in brilliantly with our space theme – a wonderful addition to this year’s trail which we hope visitors will enjoy.’’
To take part in the trail, visitors can collect a trail map from inside the Manor House.
The trail kicks off a summer season of activities at Cockington Court which includes outdoor theatre productions of Robin Hood, Pride & Prejudice and Twelfth Night (booking essential). Visitors can also enjoy one of the many dog-friendly walks around the estate, have a bite to eat in the on-site Seven Dials café, visit the creative makers in their studios or do some shopping in the gallery. For those looking to do something really special, horse and carriage rides are available around the grounds (booking essential).
The Cockington Court Sculpture Trail is open to the public daily, 10:30am – 4:30pm, from 30 July to 30 October 2023. To find out more visit: www.cockingtoncourt.org
