Bovey Castle to host free activities and guided tours at unique open day
An iconic luxury manor house hotel in Devon is opening its doors for a unique open day with free activities and guided tours.
Bovey Castle Hotel is inviting guests to experience archery or air rifle taster sessions, ferret racing, falconry displays and more at its free-to-attend open day on Sunday, March 5, which takes places from midday until 4pm.
Guests can also swing into action on the hotel’s 18-hole championship golf course and sample putting practice on one of the most historic courses in the country, or soak up a mini hand massage at the tranquil Elan Studio.
The event is also a chance to meet the hotel’s staff and for people to immerse themselves in its history with a guided tour of the Grade II-listed building, which is set within 275 acres of beautiful countryside in Dartmoor National Park.
Dean Gunston, General Manager at the 5 Red Star Bovey Castle, said: “This is a really unique opportunity to experience the hotel and learn more about the range of amenities and services we can offer.
“There is lots to see at Bovey and we’re excited to invite local residents along for what should be a great day out for family and friends, or people who want to find out more about creating the perfect event in a unique location.”
The Bovey Castle tour will take guests through various parts of the grand building, including a look at one of its 60 individually-styled guest rooms, as well as its meeting spaces and function rooms.
There will also be a chance for visitors to learn more about creating a bespoke wedding or event at Bovey Castle, and visitors could save up to £3,000 if they book an event during their visit. There will also be special discounts up for grabs for golf, dining, spa, and activities.
The 20th-century Bovey Castle was built in 1907 and first opened as a hotel and golf resort in 1930.
It was acquired by the award-winning Eden Hotel Collection in 2014, and has since won numerous awards including 5 AA Red Stars in 2017 for its exceptional hospitality – the AA’s highest possible accolade.
With its rich history, effortless charm and neo-Jacobean architecture, the hotel is one of Devon’s most iconic buildings and offers 60 bedrooms throughout the historic manor and beautiful courtyard, along with 22 self-catering country lodges tucked away within beautiful British countryside.
It also features Smith's Brasserie, an 18-hole golf course which has been named one of the top 100 golf courses in Britain, tennis courts, and the Elan Spa, while on-site experiences include falconry, archery, cider and sloe gin-making and 4x4 off-road driving.
Smith’s Brasserie will be open on the day for visitors to stay for lunch, while full estate tours and activities can also be booked on the day at an additional cost.
