Car driver sought as witness to Plymouth assault

Police are trying to trace the driver of a red car that stopped to offer assistance during an unprovoked attack on a group in Plymouth at the weekend.

Officers were called to Honicknowle Green shortly after 12.30am on Sunday 17 January after a group of men and women were reported to be assaulting another group in the park area.

A 28-year-old local man was taken by ambulance to Derriford Hospital with a serious head injury after being attacked with a bottle and baseball bat.

Two women, aged 19 and 24, from Plymouth, were also assaulted. They suffered head and arm injuries as a result.

An 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, both from Plymouth, have been arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and released on bail until 18 April.

Enquiries are continuing and officers are keen to speak to the driver that stopped at the scene.

Detective Constable Steve Ham, based at Crownhill police station, said: “We are urging the driver of the red car to get in touch. We believe they stopped at the location to offer some help to the victims.

“They are a key witness and may have information that could assist with our enquiries.”
