Celebrate Travel Heroes!

Travelling with Confidence - a local initiative to improve the experiences of disabled passengers on public transport - wants to celebrate the Travel Heroes who make journeys easier.

Using public transport with a disability can be challenging for many people. the Travelling with Confidence team wants to hear your stories of how someone has made you trip easier: perhaps a bus driver who gave you the time to get on or off the bus; a fellow passenger who pointed out when your train was approaching; or a member of the public who made sure you were at the right stop.

Like Laura, who said, "my son has Down’s Syndrome and became very agitated on a bus ride. When I decided it would be best to get off, he refused. The bus was held up for five minutes, it was an extremely stressful situation, but the driver was happy to wait, and to let us stay on the bus as it continued until my son was ready. The kindness shown to us by the bus driver and the other passengers made it so much more bearable. I felt supported rather than judged. It is hard to put into words the extent that that support helped me and my family at that time"

To nominate your Travel Hero, go to www.devoncommunities.org.uk/celebrate-travel-heroes or look out for Travel Heroes posters on buses and at bus stops around Devon and scan the QR code.

Funded by The Motability Foundation, Travelling with Confidence is run by charities Devon Communities Together and Living Options Devon. We are pleased to be working in partnership with Plymouth Citybus, Stagecoach and TallyHo to improve the experiences of disabled passengers on public transport.
