Charity auction raises £5,700
Popular local community pub The Thorverton Arms and the Thorverton Primary Schools parent teacher association (PTA) has raised £5700 towards the school purchasing brand new equipment for the students.
Amanda Plumridge, Licensee of the Thorverton Arms, recently held a charity fundraiser ‘An Auction of Promises’ at the pub alongside the PTA for everyone in the local area to come along and get involved with. Previously working in schools as a teacher herself, Amanda and the PTA wanted to support the local primary school in enhancing the students learning.
Kicking off the evening was the auction of ‘promises’, which were donated by local businesses and members of the community. Up for grabs were over 60 incredible prizes, which included a free babysitting session, a chauffeur ride in a luxury sports car and a fantastic holiday worth over £500.
Amanda, the PTA and the pub team warmly welcomed local parish councillor, Rhys Roberts, who was supporting the event and becoming auctioneer for the evening.
Once all the fabulous prizes had been auctioned off, the pub put on a BBQ for all the guests to enjoy. There was also a disco for the kids, where they could do some dancing whilst their parents enjoyed some refreshing drinks.
Chair of the PTA Louise Turley commented: “Thorverton Primary School PTA was able to host their auction of promises at the Thorverton Arms thanks to the kind support of Mandy and Steve. Over £5700 was raised for much needed IT and play equipment at the school. Local councillor Rhys Roberts tapped his gavel with aplomb, the atmosphere was buzzing and fun was had by all. Thorverton Primary School PTA would like to thank Mandy and Steve again in all their support in this event for the school throughout the year.”
A total of an incredible £5,700 was raised, which will be used by the school to buy new computer and play equipment.
Amanda commented: “The turnout we received for the fundraising evening completely exceeded expectations, the pub was absolutely packed and there was a buzz throughout. It was great to see all the kids from the school come down with their parents to have some fun and support the event. The evening was very heart-warming and myself and the rest of the PTA are delighted that we have been able to raise so much money for a wonderful cause. Thank you to everyone who donated and got involved. ”
Following the success of the charity fundraiser, Amanda is planning future fundraising initiatives to support those in the local community. She is also looking forward to celebrating her year’s anniversary at the Thorverton Arms by hosting a Hawaiian-themed party with a BBQ and limbo contest.
